Bridges

Waddinxveen’s Amalia bridge is one of the Netherlands’s largest bascule bridges: 41 meters long, 20 meters wide, and weighing nearly 400 tons (total weight including ballast: 800 tons). Hillebrand once again proved to be a strong partner in this Design and Build project.

Besides the construction of the steel structure, Hillebrand was also responsible for the design and construction of the imposing propulsion system of this bridge, consisting of four-meter panama wheels (gear wheels).  The propulsion system is an eye catcher, as it is fully visible through the glass walls  in the architecturally designed bascule cellar.
